The world is rapidly gearing up for the Olympic Games in Paris, and with a storied sporting history, it's hardly a surprise that the royal family of Monaco are particularly enthused. Yesterday, Princess Charlene and her husband, Prince Albert, stepped out for the official opening celebration for a new exhibition in Monaco titled “La flamme Olympique au fil des temps” honoring the history of the Olympic torch.

Charlene looked patriotic for the festivities in a bold red jumpsuit by designer Elie Saab that evoked the bright red and white of the Monaco flag. In a sleeveless style with on-trend flared legs, the jumpsuit brought a touch of glitz with a brooch-like central embellishment on the bodice. Charlene accented the look with gleaming metallic heeled sandals and simple stud earrings.

The exhibition is being held at Monaco's cultural center, the Grimaldi Forum Monaco, and features Prince Albert's personal collection of Olympic torches. Per the forum, "This exhibition will take you through time and the history of the Olympic flame relay, embodying the spirit of peace, friendship, and fraternity that defines the Olympic movement. Each torch on display, from Berlin 1936 to Paris 2024, tells a unique story marked by innovation and aesthetics. These objects are not merely technological marvels designed to withstand the elements but also works of art symbolizing the cultures of the host countries."
The Monegasque royals have a particularly close connection with the Olympic games. Albert's grandfather John B. Kelly Sr.—father of movie star Grace Kelly—and uncle John B. Kelly Jr., were both Olympic medal winning rowers, with Kelly Sr. earning three gold medals. Albert himself competed in the Winter Olympics for bobsledding five times between 1988 and 2002, before marrying Princess Charlene, who was part of the South Africa Olympic swimming team in 2000.
Charlene and Albert also had a moment in the Olympic torch's history just recently, when they, with their twins Princess Gabriella and Prince Jacques took part in the relay in Monaco, carrying the torch as a family.
