Arsenal have kicked off 2024 in style with a 100% winning record in the Premier League.
Big questions were asked of Mikel Arteta’s Gunners after their inauspicious end to 2023. After a creditable 1-1 draw away to Liverpool, they then lost back-to-back games to West Ham and Fulham, dealing a potentially fatal blow to their title hopes.
Arteta faced further misery with an FA Cup exit, having lost at home to Liverpool, in their first outing of 2024. But they’ve since bounced back emphatically, putting themselves right back in the title picture by thrashing Crystal Palace 5-0, beating Nottingham Forest 2-1 away and outplaying Liverpool in a 3-1 victory at the Emirates.
Liverpool have also taken nine points since the turn of the year, whilst also progressing in the League Cup and FA Cup, but they’ve played four matches in the Premier League and lost one.
Elsewhere, it’s worth noting that Manchester United finally seem to be turning a corner – and it’ll be worth keeping a close eye on whether they can close the gap on faltering Aston Villa and Tottenham in the top-four race.
Chelsea continue to struggle under Mauricio Pochettino, having lost two and won one of their three outings so far, while regelation-battlers Burnley, Nottingham Forest and Sheffield United are still struggling to pick up points.
Luton Town have been one of the stories of 2024 so far. The Hatters are making a real fist of their survival bid, having scored four goals in successive outings against Brighton and Newcastle.
