Premier League table since start of 2023 shows Unai Emery has ...

With Arsenal gunning for a first Premier League title in 19 years, Unai Emery is keen to remind them he’s still around.

The Spaniard may just be remembered as a transitional manager at the Emirates between Arsene Wenger and Mikel Arteta, but that hasn’t stopped him making his mark in England.

Now he’s flying back in England

Emery’s 19 months at Arsenal were a rare occasion he left a club trophyless, but back in the country with Aston Villa, he’s making his mark this time around.

Signed in October 2022 from European regulars Villarreal, Emery was seen as a huge coup as Steven Gerrard’s replacement, and has succeeded many steep expectations.

In fact, since the turn of the year, his Villa side lead the league on points with 36 picked up, more than Manchester City on 34 and Arsenal on 32.

Villa are currently on a ten-game unbeaten run that’s seen just two draws, while a number of players have been revitalised by their Basque coach.

Ollie Watkins can’t stop scoring, and has blasted his side up to fifth in the league, on the outskirts of an unthinkable Champions League finish.

The points gap and extra games played suggests that feat is near impossible, but Europa League football could well be on the cards, and we all know what happens there.

Emery has four Europa titles to his name with Sevilla and Villarreal and you can’t blame the Villa Park faithful for already dreaming about him making it four next season.

“When he came in I was excited,” former Villa striker Gabby Agbonlahor told talkSPORT. Aston Villa brought in a manager who wants his team playing in Europe.

“This team look well coached and well trained.”

Arsenal are understandably over the moon with the decision to replace Emery with Mikel Arteta, but they will certainly be keeping an eye on their old boss with some interesting games to come against Manchester United, Tottenham and Liverpool.
