What Premier League games take place on New Year's Day 2024 ...

27 Dec 2023

As 1 January 2024 rolls around, we will set in motion the positive vibes for the start of another calendar year, at least once any hangovers from the night before have subsided. In the hectic world of English football, this optimism from players and fans alike will refocus on the objectives for the season, somewhat tempered or adjusted by what has gone before in the first half of the campaign. Giving up on Premier League title ambitions but settling for a top four (or five) place may be the new goal. Confidently seeing the battle to avoid the dreaded drop out of the league as possible is another.

And, of course, January brings with it the chance to bolster the squad with the winter transfer window opening.

Premier League starts 2024 at Anfield

The Premier League games over the festive period this year have been a delight in terms of excitement, at least for the neutrals out there, and the first day of the new year is, on paper, set to keep the fireworks cracking. That said, there is just a single game lined up for us, maybe with thoughts of those beverage excesses on the schedulers’ minds. But don’t worry, it’s a goodie!

The famous Anfield stadium will be host to the New Year’s Day game, as title challengers Liverpool welcome Newcastle United to town. It’s an evening kick off in England (9 p.m. local time) so will be under the floodlights, which makes it a very palatable 3 p.m. ET and 12 noon PT across the US.

This, Geordie fans will feel, is a chance to get revenge on a Reds team that went a goal and a captain down in Newcastle earlier in the season, only to find Darwin Nuñez in stunning form to leave with all three points.
