Former African National Congress (ANC) MP and deputy branch chairperson in the Giyani area has resigned to join the uMkhonto weSizwe Party (MK).

Ponani Makhubele says she felt isolated and discriminated against within the party.

Makhubele believes she was victimised for standing her ground against the manipulation of the candidates’ list during the elections.

She first took the governing party to court and became victorious after her name was removed from the party list to parliament in 2011.

The provincial party leadership is yet to comment on her resignation.

Makhubele says she has suffered the same fate almost in all the elections.

“I started feeling isolated at the time when I was already serving as a Member of Parliament for the past three years. I think the isolation was due to the fact I did take the ANC to court in 2011 after my name was removed from the list where I was number 12 and the court ruled in my favour. I left the ANC because I was no longer feeling at home each and every election. I’d suffer the same thing, I’ll continue to be an activist outside of the ANC.”
