As for Forest, that win takes them five points clear of the bottom three - although the games-played figures skew the picture a little.
Things continue to look grim for Burnley and Sheffield United, who both lost today - although United won't mind a 2-0 defeat at the Etihad.
Brentford could do with a win soon too.

So how does the table look heading into the final day of 2023? Well...
Manchester United now find themselves with nine defeats from their 20 games and seventh, five points off Spurs in fifth - who also have a game in hand.
Manchester City meanwhile continue to laugh at anyone who wrote them off before they went away to win the Club World Cup.
Liverpool and Arsenal - as well as Tottenham - are still to play in this game week.

Nuno Espirito Santo spoke to the BBC after leading Forest to their first league win over United in 29 years: "The secret is the way the players are working. We are here 11 days so the credit is for them and the way they fight as a team.
"I think we started good and had good tempo. We controlled Manchester United. They have a lot of talent and we didn't allow them the space to play and I think it was a deserved win."
On Morgan Gibbs-White: "He is playing well and growing each day and I am very happy for him. He deserves it."
On Forest's form: "When you perform well and play good, the confidence has to grow. We are starting to feel that we have some talent and we are improving. It is easier when you play well."

Anthony Elanga, who assisted Morgan Gibbs-White's winning goal against his former club, has now been involved in four goals in his last three Premier League games (1 goal, 3 assists).
He’s had a hand in more goals than any other Nottingham Forest player this season (10 – 4 goals, 6 assists).

Christian Eriksen also spoke to the BBC after United's loss: "This season in general has been one step forward and two steps back and it felt like that today. Our aim was to get three points so it's definitely disappointing to come away with zero.
"We tried our best but sometimes the luck and the better decisions in the final third, the better defending and the small details don't happen.
"We had our chances. They had a lot less but scored them. At the moment we don't. We need a few chances to score goals and it makes things more difficult.
"Everyone is just trying to get goals to help the team. We are in the situation to score but at the moment it won't go in.
"Things will heal and get better. There's only one way forward and that's to work hard. Sometimes it goes against us. As a footballer you want the best game every day but the only way to do that is to work."
More from Erik ten Hag to the BBC after the match: "We have to make our performances consistent and have to do better. A game is 90 minutes and we have to invest from the first minute on.
"We are hopeful that many players will be back in the new year and they will strengthen the team and the squad.
"We know the reasons why it is not working. No team can deal with so many issues and injuries we have had. We should still have done better and we have depth in the squad. When you have so many injuries, the depth is not enough."

Erik ten Hag spoke to the BBC after United's loss: "The result is clear. It's disappointing. Losing 1-0 you get a comeback and we were good but in a counter moment we gave a goal way.
"The loss was unnecessary. We lost it in the first half. We weren't energised enough or invested enough.
"I thought against Villa we played well in the first half, we conceded from set plays. We should invest more in the first half.
"In the second we were better. In the first half we should have created some moments and we didn't. We know these results are below our standards."

Forest fans will love hearing this. There were suggestions Morgan Gibbs-White wouldn't like the idea of playing under Nuno Espirito Santo again, after their relationship appeared to falter while at Wolves.
Well, Gibbs-White has just addressed that now, on Sky Sports:
???? "I probably had my best times when I was a kid growing up under him. I learned so much. We had a great relationship at Wolves.
"Obviously I was young. Quite immature back then. I needed time to develop. I've got that experience now and have matured as a man.
"I feel like now we have an incredible relationship, and I feel like it's starting to show on the pitch."
Former Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson (centre) and INEOS sporting director Sir Dave Brailsford (centre right) could not have been impressed with what they saw today.

The sole bit of good news for Manchester United today was that they finally scored a goal away from home, which they had failed to do in each of their last three Premier League away matches.
They avoid their first four-game goalless streak in road league matches since 1989.

After his mistake led to Marcus Rashford's equalising goal, Matt Turner made two very important saves.
One at the start of the attack for the second Nottingham Forest goal, the other an outstanding one to keep out a deflected shot from Fernandes late.
Two hours before kick-off I posted in here those two stats Michael Dominski has just mentioned again, that:
United liked going to the City Ground and they've made a habit of winning their final game of the yearAbsolutely job done from Forest and it bodes really well as they head into 2024.
Less so for United, obviously.

Manchester United have now lost 21 games in all competitions in the calendar year of 2023.
They've lost more matches in only three previous years: 1930 (28), 1972 (25) and 1921 (24).
