Romelu Lukaku put in yet another lacklustre display in Napoli’s 1-0 home defeat at the hands of Lazio, prompting his fans to show signs of impatience due to what can arguably be considered an overall disappointing impact at the Stadio Diego Maradona.

The Belgium international scored five goals, on five separate occasions, from 13 Serie A games but only netted three times over the last two months.

Napoli fans probably expected more from one of their side’s most expensive signings last summer and Antonio Conte’s favourites, to the point that they couldn’t help but express their discontent when the striker left the pitch in the closing minutes of their third league defeat of the season.

Lukaku was replaced by Giovanni Simeone in injury time, a substitution welcomed by loud boos from the home fans after he had once again proved unable to make his presence felt up front.

The 31-year-old racked up as few as 15 touches and never took a shot against Marco Baroni’s side, who managed to make him completely harmless, as was the case for some of Napoli’s most important games this season.

The Belgian’s uninspired performances against Juventus, Atalanta and Inter contributed to making the Partenopei toothless, leading Conte to sub him off on every of such occasions.
