Namibia has new president

JOHANNESBURG - Nangolo Mbumba has been sworn in as Namibia's new President.

This follows the death of president Hage Geingo who died Sunday morning in hospital at the age of 82.

Mbumba was the vice-president during Geingob's presidency.

Geingob served as the country’s first Prime Minister between 1990 and 2002 under then President Sam Nujoma.

The ANC has historical ties to Namibia’s governing Southwest Africa People’s Organisation party when both were trying to liberate their people from oppression.

Mbumba has appointed 71-year-old Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah as vice president.
