Could this be the end of the road for Muvhango? The SABC 2 hit drama missed its airing on Wednesday night, 3 July 2024, as it appears the Tshivenda series has run out of produced episodes.

Instead, SABC 2 on Wednesday night re-televised the first episode.

According to TV industry insider Thinus Ferreira, the SABC has canceled Muvhango on SABC2, with no new contract or extension for further episodes.

The show’s Twitter (now X) page on Wednesday, 03 July 2024 posted, “End of the Road for Muvhango, Thank you for watching all these years. #muvhango,” signaling the end of the drama series and expressing gratitude to viewers and fans.

Muvhango, created by Duma Ndlovu and produced by Word of Mouth Pictures, has been on TV for 27 years.

Airing its first episode on April 7, 1997, Muvhango gained fame for its portrayal of the conflict between the modern lifestyle of South Africans in the 1990s and the ancient, sacred traditions of tribal Africans—and ran until Episode 130 of season 25.
