Yesterday Molly-Mae Hauge announced her split with boxer Tommy Fury after five years together – Family Lawyers have come forward to speculate on the future of Bambi, their daughter and division of assets.

The former Love Island contestants, often branded the ‘golden couple’ by fans, have shocked the public with their decision to end their relationship amid rumours of Tommy’s infidelity. Speaking in a statement, Molly-Mae said she ‘never thought our story would end this year’.

A source told The Sun: ‘It seems he would play away when he knew people wouldn’t recognise him. Molly-Mae is heartbroken.’ The boxer has been subject to cheating rumours after he was spotted ‘with a girl in Dubai’ earlier this year.

The pair, who were engaged, shared a daughter together – Bambi, who is 20 months old. Lawyers have said because the former couple were engaged not married, they will have to ‘go their separate ways without financial claims’. Molly-Mae is the wealthier of the two and has been said to have a ‘lucky escape’. She is currently residing in the family home, a £3.5million Cheshire mansion, whereas Tommy has moved out.

Lisa Payne, Chartered Legal Executive at Wilsons Solicitors says:

“Love young’s dream, or so we thought, Molly-Mae and Tommy Fury have announced their split. There is much speculation over their separate statements and what has led to their split. However, the sad reality is that this is their lives and at the centre, their little daughter, Bambi.

Molly and Tommy are engaged, we have all seen the video, but they are not yet married. As there is no such thing as ‘common law marriage’, they will simply now go their separate ways and there are almost no financial claims either can bring against the other. If rumours are true, Molly is the wealthier of the two, having built an empire since Love Island, and so perhaps for her, a lucky escape. If they were married and hadn’t entered into a pre-nuptial agreement, all their assets would go into ‘the pot’. She is the higher earner and Tommy’s boxing career could be short lives, and so would he be wanting to make a claim against such?

They share their home, with their daughter, Bambi, are so depending on how they own it, there could be quite the argument as to whether it is sold or they buy the other out, and for how much.

If their statements are to be believed, their priority is Bambi, their daughter, which is refreshing to hear. One would hope they can co-parent successfully, and Bambi will always have both parents in her life. It will be interesting to see whether claims similar to that of Kyle Walker and Lauryn Goodman are brought in respect of the finances for Bambi. Time will tell.”

Speculation whether Molly-Mae and Tommy had started pre-nup proceedings due to their engagement have been addressed by  Jason Stanley of McAlister Family Law who says the agreement can only be signed if a wedding date has been agreed. He claims if the pair haven’t pooled resources ‘they may live to regret it’.

“There is no guarantee of what the future looks like for Molly-Mae, Tommy or Bambi. Following the breakup the ex-couple will need to look at housing, finances and most importantly, child care arrangements.

“A common misconception is that in the process of a breakup,  the mother will be the favoured parent or have more rights, but this is incorrect. It is the child’s right to have a loving and close relationship with the each parent, so it is incorrect to presume Molly-Mae will get automatic custody of Bambi.

“If the ex couple are unsuccessful in resolving an agreed outcome between themselves or with the support of a mediator or solicitor specialising in children and unmarried finances, unfortunately the last resort would be to issue court proceedings for a Judge to decide the outcome.

“As two high net worth individuals, their finances could be complicated and much will depend on how they own property, how they have managed or protected their wealth such as a pre nup or cohabitation agreement.

“It is understood that Molly and Tommy were engaged to marry and they may have entered into a pre-nup agreement to protect wealth that they have brought to the relationship after marriage (note that a pre-nup can only be signed if a wedding date had been agreed).

“Alternatively they may have been advised to enter into a cohabitation agreement as there is currently no specific law dedicated to unmarried breakups. If they have blindly pooled their resources with no pre-nup or cohabitation agreement, one of them after separation might live to regret it.”
