Lionel Messi has finally broken his silence on being booed by the Paris Saint-Germain supporters this season.

The Argentine's two-year spell in the French capital will officially come to an end next month when his contract expires.

Messi was subjected to an icy reception at the Parc des Princes after PSG were dumped out of the UEFA Champions League in the round of 16 for the second straight season.

PSG manager Christophe Galtier has come out to defend the World Cup winner, but Messi says there was a rift with a section of the PSG supporters.

"At first it was great, I received a lot of encouragement as I've often said, but then people started to treat me differently, some of the Paris fans," Messi told RMC Sport.

"The majority, on the other hand, treated me as well as they did at the start.

"There was a rift with a large section of the Paris crowd. Of course it wasn't my intention.

"But these are things that have already happened with Mbappé and Neymar too, it's their way of doing things.

"But I still remember all those people who supported me, as they did at the start."

The six-time Ballon d'Or winner will officially join Major League Soccer side Inter Miami on a free transfer next month.
