Fans' Matchday Update: Everton v Manchester United

25 Nov 2023
Manchester United

Ahead of Sunday’s Premier League encounter with Manchester United at Goodison Park, the Club is providing a matchday update for fans.

The Club values and appreciates the incredible support of Evertonians - and the special atmosphere that backing creates inside Goodison.

We also know that all Evertonians understand the responsibility to show that support in a positive way - and the collective role staff and fans play in ensuring match days run smoothly.

In that spirit, and ahead of Sunday, we remind supporters of the Club’s policy relating to banners.

Fans wishing to display banners inside the ground must ensure they come with a fire safety certificate, do not make political statements and do not include threatening or profane language.

We ask that any supporters planning on engaging in protest activity do so in an appropriate way.

Full details of the Club’s policy on banners - and the supporter matchday code of conduct – is available by clicking here.

The Club also continues to take a zero-tolerance approach to pitch encroachment, the use of any form of pyrotechnics (including smoke grenades, smoke bombs/canisters and/or flares) and the throwing of items on to the playing area, or among the crowd.

CCTV is available to both the Club and law enforcement authorities and can be used as evidence in enforcing bans and criminal prosecution in the days and weeks after any incident has occurred.

Any prosecution could result in a criminal record, which may affect current and future employment, or for young people current or future education opportunities. In some cases prosecution could result in a prison sentence.

The Club also imposes its own sanctions, such as revoking Season Tickets and imposing lifetime stadium bans, on any supporters found to have engaged in anti-social/criminal behaviour at any Club matches.

To reiterate, pyrotechnics or smoke canisters are NOT permitted to be used inside stadiums and the Club reminds supporters of the dangers of using such items at Goodison Park and at away grounds.

Pyrotechnics can burn at high temperatures and can cause significant injuries to those who use them and to fellow supporters. There has also been a number of incidents involving pyrotechnics that have resulted in people experiencing burns, breathing difficulties, distress, discomfort and damage to clothing.

Supporters will always play a vital role on matchdays and that is something the Club wholeheartedly values and embraces. However, this must always be done legally by ensuring everyone’s health and safety at all Club matches.

Fans are also reminded that the independent Everton’s Fan Advisory Board (FAB) will be present inside St Luke’s Church ahead of Sunday’s game, continuing their drop-in initiative to engage and discuss key Club matters with supporters.

The drop-in sessions have been introduced as an informal opportunity for Blues to learn more about the FAB’s work, talk about anything Everton related and/or pass on any issues or feedback you would like them to raise with Club representatives.

FAB members in attendance will have a signposted stand on the ground floor of St Luke’s Church from 1.30pm-4pm for this fixture. No appointment is needed.
