Liverpool continues to put its Premier League rivals to shame with its continued successes on and off the pitch. The Reds secured a first trophy of the season by winning the Carabao Cup last week and stayed top of the table with Saturday's dramatic win at Nottingham Forest.

Jürgen Klopp's side is also among the favorites for the FA Cup and Europa League with an unprecedented quadruple a real possibility in the German's final season in charge. Liverpool has won seven trophies in the last decade and its net spend against that proves a particularly embarrassing read for Manchester United.

The Reds have spent the least amount of money out of the Premier League's top five teams, with a net spend of $490m (£387m/€451m), which equates to $70m (£55m/€64m) per trophy. That is despite the record transfer arrivals of Virgil van Dijk and Darwin Núñez, who will be aiming for more silverware this season.

United meanwhile has won four trophies in that time, with a staggering net spend of $1.40bn (£1.13bn/€1.30bn), according to Transfermarkt. That means the Red Devils have spent a whopping $358m (£283m/€330m) per trophy and around $910m more than Liverpool in total.

Chelsea has spent the most out of all the Premier League clubs has also won twice as many major trophies as United and is the only club to have made more than $1.3bn (£1bn/€1.2bn) from selling players. Arsenal is next in line, having spent $270m (£213m/€248m) for each trophy they've won, followed by Chelsea who has spent a much smaller $137m (£108m/€126m) per trophy. However, Chelsea's spending has gone up a lot since its new American owners took over.

Premier League champion Manchester City has won 16 trophies and is fourth on the list, having spent $72m (£57m/€66m) for each one. Tottenham Hotspur, another one of the Premier League's big six, hasn't won a trophy in the last ten years but has still spent $599m (£473m/€552m), which is less than Newcastle United who has spent $633m (£500m/€583m). The only other clubs to win a trophy in the last 10 years are Leicester and West Ham.

Liverpool.com says: Liverpool has got very few things wrong in the transfer market during the sustained period of success under Jürgen Klopp and these figures back that up. The Reds have spent a lot less than the likes of Manchester United and Arsenal yet won more, including the Premier League and Champions League in that time. The numbers will look even better if this season ends with more silverware.
