Pep Guardiola’s all-conquering City, who also won the Champions League and FA Cup last season, will have to see off Arsenal, Chelsea, Manchester United, Liverpool and the rest to claim an unprecedented sixth league title in seven years.
Meanwhile Luton Town are making their first appearance in the Premier League, having risen from non-league in an incredible decade of progress. They followed Championship winners Burnley and second-placed Sheffield United in earning promotion to the top flight.

The Hatters... have done it!!! A momentous victory for Luton Town and arguably their biggest since returning to the top-flight, that first-half header from Townsend proved crucial as the hosts kept Newcastle at bay to seal three vital, vital points. In truth though, Luton looked the more likely of the two sides to find the game's second goal, striking the crossbar twice through Barkley and Brown, and Mengi, Giles and Barkley again all struck decent efforts wide. Newcastle did have the ball in the back of the net following Isak's cool finish, but the Swede was denied by a marginal offside call as Newcastle's frustrations mounted. Guimaraes, Gordon, Botman and Longstaff all had chances to get Newcastle back on level terms, but only Guimaraes could force Kaminski action. A first win in four, and only their third of the season, doesn't lift Luton out of the bottom three but does close the gap to two, while Newcastle lose a fourth away game in a row to remain seventh, five points behind Manchester City in fifth.

He'll play a crucial part if Luton are to see this game out and claim the three points.

It's the Hatters who lead at the break, getting the better of an extremely lively first half following former Newcastle man Townsend's close-range header. Luton were on the attack right from the first whistle, with Dubravka making two saves from Brown in as many minutes, before brave defence from the hosts kept efforts from Almiron, Wilson and Guimaraes at bay. After Barkley's flick-on from a corner was turned goalwards by Townsend, Luton took the lead and sent Kenilworth Road into a frenzy. From there, they smelled blood, with a Barkley piledriver smashing off the crossbar and Adebayo seeing his close-range effort saved by Dubravka. Despite making two first-half substitutions, at least one of which was injury-enforced, Newcastle finished the half strongly, but neither Schar nor Almiron could find the net and it's Luton who enter half-time on top.
