Watch | Amari'i Bell reflects on Pompey draw

Amari’i Bell reflected on a good afternoon back at work as the Jamaica international returned to the Hatters line-up for the first time in over five months in the goalless draw at Portsmouth.

Bell came into the side in place of Joe Johnson, who had been ill during the week, for his first appearance of any description since suffering a hamstring injury against Aston Villa in early March.

“My legs are ok, good enough,” he said after lasting 77 minutes at Fratton Park. "It was a tough test today, going down to ten men. It’s not what we wanted, but we stayed resilient and got the point, so we’re off the mark now.

“We showed a lot of togetherness and that’s what you need in a great team. It’s something to build on, so we go from there.”

Asked how he is going to improve his own fitness, having missed pre-season, the 30-year-old said: “Playing more games, more game time. It’s my first game in five months, so it was going to be a tough one mentally and physically as well, but I got there and I’m proud of myself.

“Pre-season is where you get your sharpness, and for me, I’m way behind the boys in terms of sharpness, not just physically but mentally as well. So to go out there and get some minutes and play like I did, I’m pleased.”

The former Blackburn Rovers man also praised the 2,168 travelling Town fans, who gave the team a standing ovation at the end.

“The fans are always amazing," he said, "but to see them in their numbers after the game once again, it was a great feeling and good for me to finally experience again, so hats off to them and thanks for the support. We look forward to seeing them again.”
