LSG wins by five runs

Marcus Stoinis set the stage for LSG with some ferocious power-hitting as the home side posted an imposing target of 177.

Mumbai started strongly, before LSG reined the game in with some incisive bowling. Mohsin Khan dealt the final blow, defending 11 runs in the last over against two of the best finishers going around. The win puts LSG in the driver’s seat for a playoff spot.

Mohsin has the responsibility of defending last over. Length ball into the pitch. Green can’t get it away. Dot ball. Second ball. A tad short, but Green doesn’t get the placement right. Just a single. On the slot for David, but it is sliced. Another single. Inch-perfect yorker next up. DOT BALLL!!! Nine needed of last two. Another yorker. Green can’t get it away. THIS IS DEATH BOWLING AT ITS VERY BEST!!! LSG wins by five runs.

MI 167/5 in 19 overs

Naveen with the penlutimate. Starts with a searing yorker. David can’t his bat on it. The next one is on the slot and David clatters it. 90m six. A rapidly-run double follows. OHH NOO!! It is a waist-high no ball and it dribbles away for a four. Free hit. Swing and miss. Repeat. Swing and miss again. Last ball. Again on the slot. And smoked away. Six more. Just 11 runs needed from the last.

MI 148/5 in 18 overs

Yash Thakur with the 18th over for LSG. Starts strongly. But gives away a no ball third ball. The freehit is an accurate yorker. Just a single from it. Vishnu Vinod on strike and he goes for a pull shot. He can’t clear the boundary rider. MI loses another wicket and that brings Green in.

MI 139/4 in 17 overs

Mohsin into the attack. Wadhera on strike. He goes for a big shot, but can’t clear deep square leg. OUT!!!! Vishnu Vinod is in as the Impact Player. Starts with a single. David on strike and Mohsin gifts a loosener and it is whacked away to the leg side for a six.

MI 131/3 in 16 overs

Naveen with the 16th. David on strike. Takes a single first ball. Holds Wadhera down for a couple of dot balls. The pressure in mounting for Mumbai Indians. Naveen cramps up ahead of the last ball. The physio is out in the middle. Just a single last ball.

MI 125/3 in 15 overs

Yash comes in. SKY tries to take him on with a scoop shot. HE HAS PLAYED IT ON TO HIS STUMPSS!!! Huge setback for MI in the chase. David is the new batter and he starts with a four.

MI 115/2 in 14 overs

Bishnoi with his last over. He misses his length slightly and Wadhera needs no second invitation. Drilled away for a four. That should release some pressure on the youngster. SKY too is taking his time to settle in.

MI 107/2 in 13 overs

Krunal with his last over. Starts with a wide. He strangles Wadhera with three consecutive dots. Single and SKY on strike. He too can’t get away Krunal. Superb over from the LSG skipper.

MI 106/2 in 12 overs

Bishnoi with the ball. Kishan attempts another big shot, but can only edge it. It is high and Naveen had to make some ground. But he holds on to it. BISHNOI STRIKES AGAIN!! Nehal Wadhera is the new batter for MI.

MI 102/1 in 11 overs

Another short one from Krunal Pandya and Kishan slaps it away for a four. That is his fifty!! He keeps going. Stays low and punches it over mid wicket for another four. Hundred up for MI.

MI 92/1 in 10 overs

Bishnoi continues. Double from Kishan to start the over. Single brings Rohit on the strike. On the pads and Rohit paddles it for a four. Rohit tries to go big. But the ball wasn’t in reach and it reaches only the long on fielder. First wicket down for MI.

MI 82/0 in 9 overs

Krunal brings himself back and Rohit whips out the sweep shot. Badoni had to put in a full-length dive to stop a boundary. Kishan too adds a boundary. Colission between Bishnoi and Swapnil while trying to prevent the four.

MI 74/0 in 8 overs

Krunal tosses the ball to Bishnoi in hopes of a breakthrough. He starts strongly, not giving the MI openers any freebies. Just three runs from the first five balls. Powerful drive from Kishan last ball

MI 69/0 in 7 overs

Swapnil Singh with the ball. He gifts a short ball and Kishan is happy to pump it for a four to the deep mid wicket fence. Another short one and Kishan goes on his back foot to slap it away for another four. TOO EASY FOR KISHAN!!

MI 58/0 in 6 overs

Last over of the PowerPlay. Yash with the ball. Rohit with a single and it is the 50-run partnership for the duo. Again on to Rohit’s pull-shot arc and he slams it boundary bound. Bishnoi puts in a valiant effort. But he can;t prevent the six.

MI 47/0 in 5 overs

Naveen gets another over. Takes the pace off, but Rohit readjusts to flick it past deep point for another six. He is getting into the mood. Mumbai has started on the right foot in this chase.

MI 38/0 in 4 overs

Rohit joins the fun. Steps down before pulling Yash Thakur for a huge six. Rohit is hit on the toe and needs medical attention. He is back and the chase continues. Yash pitches it, but it is a slower one. Kishan couldn’t get the connection he wanted. Just a double.

MI 27/0 in 3 overs

Naveen gets his first over. Three singles to start with. Kishan on strike. Naveen goes wide and it is slashed away for another boundary. He is leading the chase for Mumbai.

MI 20/0 in 2 overs

Mohsin with the new ball. On the pads straight away and Kishan picks it up and deposits it deep into the stands. FIRST SIX FOR MI!!!

Mohsin errs in his line again. Kishan flicks it away for a four this time. Flying start for MI.

MI 7/0 in 1 over

Rohit and Ishan out in the middle. It is Krunal with the new ball. Ishan starts the innings with a boundary. Full and on the leg, swept away. Slow, but steady over to start with for MI.

LSG 177/3 in 20 overs

Madhwal with the last. Starts with a dot ball against Pooran. A wide and a leg bye follows. Madhwal misses his line and Pooran flicks it away for a four. Wide on the off side and Pooran attempts to lift it over. Jordan dives, but can’t get over. But Stoinis can, in the slot and thumped over Tim David at long off.

LSG 162/3 in 19 overs

Pooran faces the first ball from Behrendorff. He takes a single to bring Stoinis on strike. He goes for a biggie, but can get only a single. Slow ball from Behrendorff. Pooran can’t get it away. Leg bye. Behrendorff with a low full toss and Stoinis swings half-hearted, single-handed and it somehow clears the fence. Behrendorff goes short and it is easy-peasy for Stoinis, slammed away for a six on the leg side.

LSG 147/3 in 18 overs

Jordan with the 18th. Length ball first up and Stoinis pumps it over mid wicket fence for a six and that is his fifty!! Jordan goes short and Stoinis rocks back to flat bat it for another four. He is not done yet. Jordan gives width and it is flicked over point. Jordan atempts a yorker next up and it is all too easy for Stoinis. Straight bat, full flow and over the fence. Game-changing over this from the Aussie.

LSG 123/3 in 17 overs

Krunal Pandya retires hurt and that brings out Nicholas Pooran out to the middle. Madhwal in action. He angles an inswinger in and it catches Stoinis off guard. Slams on to his right foot. Umpire gives out. Stoinis reviews and he survives. Was missing the leg stump. Another miserly over from Madhwal.

LSG 117/3 in 16 overs

Cam Green gets his second over. LSG gets in a leg bye. Green goes short and gets it past Stoinis for a dot ball. Full from Green and Stoinis latches on to it. Clears long on and it is a welcome six for LSG.

LSG 108/3 in 15 overs

Chris Jordan with the 15th. Starts with a wide. Stoinis takes a single to bring Krunal on strike. He slashes one on the off. Just past point for a couple. Boundaries have dried up for LSG batters. With Pooran left in the tank, both these batters must start going big.

LSG 100/3 in 14 overs

Madhwal with his second over. He attacks with back of the length deliveries. Krunal and Stoinis unable to get underneath it. Madhwal gives away only four runs in the first five balls. Only a single from the last ball. Impressive over from the youngster.

LSG 95/3 in 13 overs

Behrendorff returns to the attack. Krunal and Stoinis start cautiously. Deals the accurate Behrendorff with conservative shots. The leftie gifts a wide down the off side. Nine runs of the over.

LSG 86/3 in 12 overs

Cameron Green into the attack. A tad short from Green and Stoinis cuts the ball behind point for FOUR. Green maintains a tight line as Stoinis finds a single down to long-on. 50-run partnership between Krunal and Stoinis.

LSG 78/3 in 11 overs

Chawla tosses one in and Krunal steps out and pummels the ball down the ground for a huge SIX. A single to follow. Chawla foxes Stoinis with a slower-ball that turns sharply from length.

LSG 68/3 in 10 overs

Akash Madhwal is into the attack. He hits the deck hard and cramps up the batters. Good start by the seamer, five runs from the seamer.

LSG 63/3 in 9 overs

Chawla strays to the pads and Krunal sweeps it behind square for two runs. Chawla floats another ball in and Krunal sweeps the ball to square-leg and reels in another two runs. A single to follow. Chawla goes straighter this time and Stoinis swipes the ball across the line for a massive SIX. 13 from the over.

LSG 50/3 in 8 overs

Shokeen continues. Stoinis deploys the sweep shot to get a single. Krunal on strike. They sneak in a quick leg bye. Stoinis finally breaks free. Shokeen floats one in and Stoinis steps out to launch in over mid wicket for a massive six. That brings the run-rate above six. Couple of singles more shore up the over.

LSG 38/3 in 7 overs

Piyush Chawla into the attack and he strikes straight away. He drifts one outside the off. It is a googly and it kisses the outside edge before nestling in Kishan’s gloves. Another blow for LSG.

LSG 35/2 in 6 overs

Rohit persists with Shokeen. He continues to keep Krunal and De Kock on the toes. Three consecutive dots against the LSG skipper. Krunal gets one past point for a single. LSG unable to break free in the PowerPlay.

LSG 32/3 in 5 overs

Chris Jordan gets his second. QDK side steps before executing a single handed lofted shot for an extraordinary SIXX!!! Just a couple of singles from the rest of the over and MI continues to hold control over this game.

LSG 23/2 in 4 overs

Rohit Sharma introduces off-spin in the form of Shokeen to counter the LSG left-handers. Krunal attacks straight away. Driven for four. Two dot balls follow. Shokeen slides one into pad and Krunal clips it away for a couple. Just six runs of the over.

LSG 17/2 in 3 overs

Behrendorff continues. Off-pace delivery and Hooda misreads it. Mishits and it is an easy catch at mid off. Hooda’s horror season continues.

Prerak Mankad is the new batter. Behrendorff welcomes him with a good length delivery which rose sharply. Mankad can only edge it to the keeper. It is two in two for MI. Krunal Pandya is the new batter. Starts with a three. A rare occasion in IPL.

LSG 12/0 in 2 overs

Chris Jordan with the second over. Hooda tries to go over the top first ball. It went HIGHHH in the air and Tim David is under it. But he can’t hold on to a tough chance. LIFE FOR HOODA!! He has had a tough season so far, this could be the luck he needed. QDK took his time to get a grip on Jordan’s pace variations. Last ball, Jordan angles one into his pads and he effortlessly flicks it for a huge six.

Lucknow Super Giants takes on resurgent Mumbai Indians as playoffs race heats up

An inconsistent Lucknow Super Giants will take on a red-hot Mumbai Indians in their respective penultimate league match of the IPL here at the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium on Tuesday.
