Three people have been charged in connection with the death of former One Direction member Liam Payne, who died in Argentina on October 16.

As reported by AP, Argentine prosecutor Andrés Madrea has charged three suspects in relation to Payne's death. According to the prosecutor's statement, released on November 7, “illicit conduct was discovered from which three people were charged with the crimes of abandonment of a person followed by death” and the "supply and facilitation of narcotics."

The names of the suspects have not been released. The prosecution noted the first of the accused as someone “who accompanied the artist on a daily basis during his stay in the city of Buenos Aires”; the second is a hotel employee who police report supplied Payne with cocaine twice during his stay at the hotel, and the third has also been accused of supplying the singer with drugs.

The November 7 statement also revealed Liam Payne's cause of death. Based on the completed toxicology report, the injuries observed in the autopsy, and the police investigation, the prosecution has concluded Payne's death was not caused by any form of intentional self-harm. The singer died after falling from the balcony of his third-floor hotel room in Buenos Aires.

Per the prosecutor's statement, forensic examiners concluded Payne's death was caused by “multiple trauma” injuries as “the result of the fall” from the balcony. Toxicology tests performed after Payne's death revealed “traces of alcohol, cocaine, and a prescription antidepressant” in the singer's body. The examiners and the prosecution have concluded that Payne “was not fully conscious or was experiencing a state of noticeable decrease or loss of consciousness" at the time of his death, “which would have prevented a defensive reflex from the singer upon his fall.”

As a result, the prosecution has ruled out “the possibility of a conscious or voluntary act” and also ruled out “physical intervention by third parties" as the cause of death.

Fans of Liam Payne flooded the streets of Palermo after the news of his death in mid-October, and took to social media to mourn together. Payne's One Direction bandmates shared a joint statement saying they were “completely devastated” and needed time to “process to loss of our brother.” Each member also shared their own personal tributes.
