Leicester City are being strongly linked with a transfer move for Valencia striker Diego Lopez under new manager Ruud van Nistelrooy.

The Foxes have endured a difficult start to life back in the Premier League this season, with Steve Cooper recently sacked following the club’s poor form.

Van Nistelrooy has just taken over at Leicester after a spell as caretaker manager for Manchester United, who sacked Erik ten Hag and eventually hired Ruben Amorim as his full time replacement.

It’s going to be a big challenge for Van Nistelrooy at Leicester, but reports now suggest the Dutch tactician could be gifted a fine signing in the form of Valencia front-man Lopez.

The talented 22-year-old has impressed in La Liga and also with the Spanish national team at this summer’s Olympics.

If LCFC can get this deal done, it could be a useful addition to Van Nistelrooy’s squad as he looks to steer the team away from the relegation zone.

What Ruud van Nistelrooy has said about taking the Leicester job

“I’m proud, I’m excited,” Van Nistelrooy told the Leicester official site after being announced.

“Everybody that I speak to about Leicester City Football Club is enthusiastic, has great stories about the quality of the people working at the Club, the supporters, also of course, the recent history of the Club is impressive.

“I’m dead excited to start and to get to know everyone and give everything I can for the Football Club.”

Van Nistelrooy was a great player back in the day and it will be intriguing to see what he can now achieve in Premier League management, having previously looked impressive during his stint in charge of PSV Eindhoven.

RVN had to watch from the stands yesterday as Leicester were beaten 4-1 by Brentford in this weekend’s Premier League clash.
