Kylian Mbappé, the French forward, revealed that he requested to be substituted by coach Didier Deschamps at halftime of extra time during the match against Portugal because he was "too tired." Mbappé emphasized that it is up to him to be at his best for the Euro 2024 semifinal against Spain next Tuesday in Munich and highlighted the team's progression to the semifinals.

"I had a conversation with the coach at the end of regulation time. I told him I would try, but midway through extra time I didn't feel well. I was too tired. He said okay," explained the forward, who has scored just one goal in four matches in Euro 2024.

"We have to overcome it. These are the ups and downs of being a footballer. We have to stay committed and always support our teammates. The important thing is that we win. I've only scored one goal, but we're in the semifinals and I'm very happy," he continued.

During the penalty shootout, after being substituted, Mbappé admitted it was "worse" than taking a penalty himself.

"The guys took their penalties very well," said the forward, who praised the goalkeeper Mike Maignan for being a key part of their success against Portugal on Friday.
