Kings of Joburg Season 2 Plot/Synopsis

Netflix’s description of the show reads, “The Masire brothers rule Johannesburg’s criminal underworld, but a supernatural family curse and a tangled web of betrayal threaten to destroy them.” When Mo is released from prison last season, people were still looking for him. They need him to rat out his brother Simon. These two brothers run the streets of Johannesburg, they own the criminal underworld.

Ten years ago, these kings ran a heist, which led Mo to take the fall and go to prison for ten years. Expecting there to be some kind of fanfare for this ultimate sacrifice, there was none of that. None of his family members ever visited him in prison. To add fuel to the fire, Simon was now courting his brother’s wife, who had decided to leave Mo and get married to his brother.

Well, now that Mo is out, things are starting to get tense within the family. They are scared there will be some eternal damnation-like fate waiting for them when Mo comes out. A chance meeting with a stranger turns into something bigger when it is found that she is actually an undercover agent and she is out to get both the brothers.

Because the kings are scared of Mo, they decide to kill him but instead kill his daughter, making matters even worse. A Detective Jasmine is trying to get the brothers but gets killed, leaving the trail cold. Now, Mo wants to leave crime, but Simon doesn’t take any of that. The supernatural element in the series is the mermaid, who is hungry for blood, and Simon will lose his power unless she is satiated, so he has to sacrifice his own son, and that’s where the first season ends.

The mermaid grows unsatiated and thrives on chaos. Meanwhile, the police seem to be hellbent on bringing the brothers to justice. Gun running hot and bombs aflame, there is about to be a big showdown where wins and losses won’t matter. Because the Masires still run this city.
