Kaizer Chiefs dug deep on Wednesday as they were forced to come from behind against Sekhukhune United to claim a 2-1 victory at FNB Stadium.
In what's been a difficult start to their DStv Premiership season, Chiefs found themselves a goal down on the stroke of half-time thanks to Elias Mokwana's effort.
Chiefs forced their way back into the contest thanks to Edson Castillo in the 59th minute and then took the lead in the 77th minute when Edmilson Dove reacted quickest to force the ball over the line after Lehlogonolo Matlou steered a header against the crossbar.
The win sees Chiefs move to 5th on the table, while Sekhukhune are 7th.
The second match on Wednesday evening between Mamelodi Sundowns and Stellenbosch United started 35 minutes late due to inclement weather.
While Sundowns went down 1-0 to a goal from Devin Titus in the 14th minute, they claimed a 3-1 win thanks to strikes from Grant Kekana and Aubrey Modiba near the end of the first half and Siyabonga Mabena on the stroke of full time.
Sundowns' win sees them equal Kaizer Chiefs record of winning the opening eight games of the season, set in the 2014/2015 season.
They top the table by 10 points over Golden Arrows, who have a game in hand.
