WWE Royal Rumble 2024 Results: Jade Cargill And The Winners ...
Jade Cargill made her WWE debut last night at the Royal Rumble, and it was well worth the wait.
Credit: WWE.comJade Cargill disappeared from WWE programming last year, and after months of questions and speculation, she made her long-awaited WWE debut in her home state of Florida at the WWE Royal Rumble. The moment was well worth the wait as Cargill set Twitter on fire, revived Bianca Belair’s trajectory in 2024, made the Final 3 and put the entire women’s division on notice.
“I’m nothing less than a Superstar, what did you think was going to happen? Did you hear the crowd?” said Jade in a post-match interview. But I do wanna thank the WWE fanbase, because you guys showed up, and showed out tonight. I am nothing short of a Superstar. I am Jade Cargill, get ready for everything that comes with me.”
It took two women to eliminate Cargill in the Final 3 as the men’s and women’s Royal Rumbles were up-and-down matches. Neither were the greatest Royal Rumbles ever in the pantheon of the legendary event, but both were entertaining enough to make WrestleMania season exciting.
WWE Royal Rumble 2024 Winners Jade CargillJade Cargill is the next big thing in the WWE women’s division. So what if Brock Lesnar may have been scrapped from the men’s Royal Rumble at the last minute? Cargill is the Black women’s version of Brock Lesnar. If booked correctly, which I can’t see WWE booking her incorrectly, Cargill is going to make WWE a lot of money, rewrite the history of Black women in wrestling all while crossing over as a Hollywood star due to her ties to Endeavor. Not to mention WWE’s forthcoming 10-year deal with Netflix NFLX .
To quote Cargill by way of Beyonce, Jade Cargill is one of one. She’s No. 1.
BayleyDespite being only 34-years old, Bayley’s Royal Rumble win felt like a lifetime achievement award. Since the pandemic, Bayley has spent recent years in a backseat role, ensuring other talent gets over.
“Bayley is a very unique and very giving performer that is always a constant,” Triple H said in a post-Royal Rumble press conference. “And I think it’s easy to overlook how good she is, because she’s always the constant in getting something else launched. And I can’t say enough about that, how much that role—or how big that role is. So sometimes, it’s overlooked because of that, and tonight she was able to put herself in that spotlight and not be overlooked.”
Bayley has now found herself in an ugly duckling storyline, where members of Damage CTRL are becoming passive-aggressive with the Royal Rumble winner. All signs point to Bayley challenging, not Rhea Ripley, but Damage CTRL leader Iyo Sky at WrestleMania.
Nia JaxNia Jax entered the women’s Royal Rumble at No. 19 and was an absolute monster. Say what you will about Jax, but she’s the best heel going in the women’s division. Rhea Ripley is supposed to be the top women’s heel in WWE, but she gets cheered like an Emo Elvis.
Nia Jax gets booed. Like a heel. And she loves it.
In total, Jax eliminated eight women from the Royal Rumble—the most of any women—before being set up to get eliminated by Jade Cargill. If and when Jade Cargill becomes a top star in WWE, Jax will have played a hand in it and few will truly be able to appreciate that.
TNA WrestlingFor the second time, a TNA Knockouts champion made a surprise appearance in a women’s Royal Rumble match. This time, it wasn’t a former WWE Superstar, it was TNA top star Jordynne Grace. Grace impressed during her time in the match, showing off her strength through strong-woman spots. Former TNA Knockout—and former WWE Superstar—Naomi also returned to the company to a huge pop. Naomi made a great impression during her comeback as the second-longest lasting WWE Superstar behind Bayley.
WWE has opened the Forbidden Door to TNA, but don’t say that to Triple H.
"I'm not going to use cliche terms about what door people go through. It's stupid and silly,” said Triple H following the Royal Rumble. The barb added insult to injury to Tony Khan and an AEW Collision show destined to tank against the Royal Rumble.
Cody RhodesDespite CM Punk being the overwhelming favorite, and despite The Rock coming back on the first WWE Raw of the year, it was Cody Rhodes who emerged as the back-to-back winner of the Royal Rumble match. This was the right decision as WWE continues to stick with Cody Rhodes’ long-term story.
From the WrestleMania 39 loss—to the face-to-face tease with Roman Reigns on SmackDown in October—WWE has never wavered from Rhodes finishing his story. Now that Rhodes has won two Rumbles in a row, and emphatically challenged Reigns with a pointing gesture before the show went off the air, there’s no chance in hell Rhodes won’t finish his story.
R-TruthR-Truth has become the Sami Zayn of The Judgment Day, and he’s exactly what this brooding faction has needed to be interesting and fun. Truth screwed up the stipulations in both Royal Rumbles last night. First, R-Truth entered the women’s Royal Rumble, only to be (unofficially) thrown out by Nia Jax and sent to the back by Raw GM Adam Pearce.
Later on that night, Truth entered the men’s Rumble, but stood on the apron and waited for a hot tag. Dominik Mysterio reluctantly obliged, leading to the first hot tag in Royal Rumble history. Nobody does more with less than R-Truth, and hopefully all his shenanigans lead to a WrestleMania payoff.
WWE Royal Rumble 2024 Losers CM PunkCM Punk showed well in the Royal Rumble, but losing in his first televised appearance in 10 years has to be considered disappointing. This was the right choice, however, and a potential test of the mercurial star’s temperament. Punk’s path to WrestleMania will now looks like it’ll go through the Elimination Chamber in Perth, Australia, where he would once again be considered the favorite.
Should Punk punch his ticket to WrestleMania 40 and go on to face Seth Rollins, it figures to be a great main event in Philadelphia.
Tony KhanTony Khan had a rough night during the Royal Rumble. Not only will AEW Collision do a terrible number, but a number of his biggest stars who once competed for AEW were made to look like even bigger stars in WWE. From Andrade, to Cody Rhodes, to CM Punk to Jade Cargill, last night was a celebration of WWE’s star power and something of an advertisement to anybody planning to leave All Elite Wrestling.
Triple H’s Forbidden Door diss only made matters worse for Khan, but don’t count out the Billion-Dollar Nepobaby just yet. Names like Sasha Banks and Kazuchika Okada are likely to show up in AEW sooner rather than later.
Kofi KingstonAfter building a wave of momentum through a feud with IMPERIUM, Kofi Kingston trended to make good for past botches in the Royal Rumble. For years, Kingston had dazzled with Royal Rumble saves, however in recent years that magic withered away through a few missteps.
In 2024, however, making history with his 16th consecutive Royal Rumble appearance (second behind Kane), not only did Kingston not attempt one of his highlight-reel saves, but he was unceremoniously eliminated by GUNTHER after just over three minutes. The disrespect for a former WWE champion and future Hall of Famer is disgusting. Kofi deserves better.
