NOTA Baloyi Denies Rape Allegations by Itumeleng Bokaba ...

Itumeleng Bokaba and Nota Baloyi

South African music executive Nota Baloyi has denied allegations of rape brought against him by actress and musician Itumeleng Bokaba. Baloyi, who recently filed a protection order against Bokaba, claims that their interactions were entirely consensual and that he is being blackmailed by Bokaba to promote her music.

Background on the Allegations

The allegations against Nota Baloyi surfaced earlier this month when Itumeleng Bokaba, widely known for her acting and musical career, opened a rape case against him. Bokaba, who uses the stage name “Okashii,” claimed in her statement that Baloyi had forced her into sexual activity, an accusation that Baloyi has categorically denied.

According to Bokaba, the incident took place in early September 2024. She detailed the encounter as non-consensual, stating that Baloyi used his position of power within the music industry to coerce her into sexual acts. Bokaba further alleged that she was threatened with career sabotage if she did not comply with his demands.

The allegations took social media by storm, where fans of both figures began speculating and defending their respective sides.

NOTA Baloyi’s Response: Claims of Blackmail

In his defense, Nota Baloyi issued a statement claiming that the allegations are false and that the interactions were consensual. He also claims that Bokaba attempted to blackmail him into promoting her music, using their intimate encounter as leverage. In his words, “It’s either you introduce me to your parents, or you promote my songs… That was the blackmail… crazy!”

Baloyi alleges that Bokaba initiated their intimate encounter and that her claims of rape are part of a larger scheme to tarnish his name and force him into giving her more visibility within the entertainment industry. “Anything that happened was consensual, and was initiated by her, not me,” Baloyi insisted, further adding that Bokaba had told him, “I’m gonna teach you women.”

Details from the Protection Order

Included in the ongoing legal battle is a protection order filed by Nota Baloyi against Bokaba, which outlines the nature of their interactions and the harassment he claims to have suffered at her hands. The order details various incidents of alleged emotional abuse and threats from Bokaba, including threatening WhatsApp messages.

According to Baloyi’s account in the protection order, Bokaba attempted to coerce him into promoting a song she had sent him by threatening to publicly accuse him of rape if he refused. This led to an ongoing dispute between the two, with Baloyi asserting that he tried to end their communication several times.

“I introduced her to my parents, or else she would publicly humiliate me and accuse me of raping her,” Baloyi wrote in the protection order, which was obtained and verified by legal sources. He added that Bokaba continued to make further demands, such as requesting money for emergency contraceptives, which he believes was part of her plan to extort him.

The protection order also references a video that Bokaba posted on 24 September 2024, which allegedly incited her social media followers to attack Baloyi online. The video quickly gained more than 1.3 million views across various platforms, including TikTok and Instagram.

The public reaction to these allegations has been highly polarized, with both Nota Baloyi and Itumeleng Bokaba’s supporters taking to social media to express their opinions. On X (formerly known as Twitter), fans and critics alike have shared their views, with some defending Baloyi’s claims of blackmail and others supporting Bokaba’s stance.

One notable social media post reads, “Nota Baloyi is being dragged through the mud, and it’s clear he’s a victim of blackmail,” while others have called for a thorough investigation into Bokaba’s allegations, stating, “If these allegations are true, justice must be served.”

Other high-profile figures in the entertainment industry, such as DJ Maphorisa, have also been indirectly drawn into the conversation due to their previous involvement with both Baloyi and Bokaba.

Sunday World article reports that Maphorisa, along with Nota, was dragged into a separate rights dispute involving Kwesta’s song “Maybabo,” further adding to the media scrutiny surrounding both figures.

Legal Proceedings and Further Developments

The case between Nota Baloyi and Itumeleng Bokaba is still ongoing, with Bokaba having formally opened a case of rape against Baloyi at the South African Police Service (SAPS). As reported by Briefly, Bokaba’s legal team is working on gathering further evidence to support her claims.

In the meantime, Baloyi has filed for a counter-suit, accusing Bokaba of defamation and emotional distress, claiming that her public accusations have severely damaged his reputation and personal life.

Bokaba, who has a verified TikTok and Instagram following of over 100,000, has continued to post on her social media platforms, where she has gained both support and criticism. As outlined in Fakaza News, Bokaba has used her platforms to speak about the alleged abuse and has urged her followers to stand with survivors of sexual violence.
