PRETORIA - International Relations Minister Naledi Pandor says she will be calling her Iran colleagues to urge restraint.

She maintains the Iranians are not the aggressors in this exchange.

Iran fired a barrage of drones and air missiles at Israel, in retaliation for bombing of the Iranian Consulate in Damascus.

Pandor said, "South Africa has been consistent in calling for peace, I will probably call my colleagues in Iran to speak to them. But they are not the aggressor here, and it's important that we do target those who are causing the instability and insecurity."

"We will urge restraint but what we need to address is the heart of the matter and the heart of the matter is solidarity with people of Palestine."

"The key issue is the Palestinian's people's freedom."
