Inter Milan striker Mehdi Taremi put in a tidy performance against Udinese in the Coppa Italia despite one notable miss.

This is the view in today’s print edition of Turin-based newspaper Tuttposport, via FCInterNews.

32-year-old former Porto striker Taremi got the nod in attack against Udinese in Inter’s first match of the Coppa Italia yesterday.

Nerazzurri coach Simone Inzaghi started the Iranian alongside Marko Arnautovic in attack.

These two experienced strikers have made up Inter’s “second string” so far this season. Both have gotten more opportunities in the Champions League than in Serie A.

And it was once again in a cup competition that Taremi got the start.

For Taremi, the one big frustration will naturally be his failure to score a goal yesterday.

For a striker, going a lengthy period without scoring is always tough.

And Taremi had one moment that just about summed up his woes at the moment. He made the right run to latch on to a through-ball from Yann Bisseck, and hit the post from a good position.

It seems possible that the 32-year-old would have found the back of the net if he were in a bit more goalscoring form.

But that didn’t matter too much. Even without a goal, Taremi more than played his part in Inter getting the victory.

It was the Iranian who smartly intercepted an errant Juergen Ekkelenkamp pass in midfield. From there he was incisive with his run and pass to teammate Marko Arnautovic.

Taremi and Arnautovic had a strong linkup at various points. Both put in the dirty work, and that was essential to Inter getting the job done.
