Inter Milan defender Matteo Darmian has urged his teammates to bounce back from a weekend heartache and stay close to Napoli in the title race.

Speaking with DAZN in the build-up to the Empoli game, as reported by FCInterNews, Darmian discussed fatigue as a potential source of trouble for the Nerazzurri.

Despite taking the lead twice and boasting a two-goal cushion with 20 minutes to go, Inter couldn’t beat Juventus at home on Sunday.

Indeed, Kenan Yildiz’s late brace salvaged a point for the Bianconeri in a remarkable 4-4 draw at Stadio Giuseppe Meazza.

Though Darmian wasn’t in the starting line-up, Simone Inzaghi has decided to bring him back to the fold in Tuscany this evening.

Anything other than three points against Empoli would be detrimental to Inter’s hopes of defending the Scudetto.

Napoli extended their lead at the top of the Serie A table yesterday with a 2-0 away win against AC Milan.

Therefore, Inter cannot afford a mistake at Stadio Carlo Castellani.

It’s been less than 48 since Inter exchanged tackles with Juventus in an intense Derby d’Italia.

However, the fixture schedule is merciless.

“We haven’t had much time to prepare for the game, but we’ve focused on recovering our energy,” Darmian said.

“We’re ready to take on tonight’s match.”

Darmian also gave credit to Empoli for their impressive league start under Roberto D’Aversa.

“Every match in Serie A is tough. Empoli has started the season well and didn’t deserve to lose against Napoli.

“They also had a strong showing against Juve and have played well in several away games.

“They’re in a well-earned spot on the table. Tonight’s game is crucial for us to keep up with Napoli, who won an important match yesterday.

“But we must focus on ourselves and continue our journey,” Darmian finished.
