Inter Milan midfielder won’t take part in the upcoming Italy matches as he’s instead going under the knife during the international break.

The Azzurri will kickstart their UEFA Nations League campaign in an away clash against France. The two neighbors will collide at Le Parc des Princes in Paris on September 6th.

Three days later, the Italians will take on Israel in Budapest.

However, Luciano Spalletti will have to do without the services of one of his key midfielders.

According to La Gazzetta dello Sport via FcInter1908, Barella will undergo a nose operation in the coming days.

This medical procedure will clear the player’s airways and improve his breathing.

As the pink newspaper explains, Italy’s medical staff have been aware of this operation. Therefore, Spalletti has already excluded the 27-year-old from his plans.

Nevertheless, the operation won’t affect Barella’s commitments with the Nerazzurri.

The Sardinian is expected to be in the starting lineup in tonight’s big showdown against Atalanta at San Siro. He should join Hakan Calhanoglu and Henrikh Mkhitaryan in the middle of the park.

Following the operation, Barella will have to skip training for a few days before resuming action per normal.

Therefore, he should be available for selection when Inter head to Monza for their first fixture after the international break.

This season, Barella has thus far started in both of the club’s Serie A fixtures. He contributed with a sensational assist to Marcus Thuram in the 2-2 draw against Genoa on the opening day of the season.

The Italy international has been plying his trade at Appiano Gentile since making the move from Cagliari in 2019.

His contract with the Italian champions is valid until June 2029, having signed an extension earlier this summer.
