Lavanya reports from the ground..

India is blocking Laura Wolvaardt’s ability to whip out her cover drive. Field on the off side is stacked. They are challenging Laura to pick the length and find gaps outside her arc of comfort.

And she’s doing it incredibly well, with some deft shots through the longer boundary

In the pre-match presser, Laura said this:

For example, balls I have been cover-driving my whole life, I now need to leave. It’s a bit difficult for me because that happens on instinct and I have to fight the way I have been batting for the entirety of my career.

Following her own plan to the tee but SA will need her to fight every intrusive thought if they want to stay in the game.

Harmanpreet’s reliance on Sneh Rana as a strike spin bowler continues. Gave her an over with the new ball right before lunch. Sneh and Deepti will be crucial as the temperature also cranks up a notch here. Much to do for Anneke Bosch and the SA captain

Renuka Singh with the new cherry in her hand. Wolvaardt to face. Full on the stumps first ball, defended solidly. Full outside off, beats Wolvaardt’s outside edge. Four! On leg stump, Wolvaardt drives it through the right of mid on to open the account for SA.
