India vs England: Mukhesh, Bumrah right on the money

Bumrah begins with a maiden to Crawley and Mukesh almost had Ben Duckett, who instead got four runs when his inside edge brushed past his stumps and the ball ran to the third-man fence. But an expensive first over in the end for Mukesh, who was also hit for a FOUR by Crawley. England 10/0 in 2 overs.

India vs England Live: Visitors begin their first innings, India 396

India vs England Live Score: What put off Anderson there?

The England pacer has some issue, as he stopped just before delivering and looked at non-striker Ashwin and then said something to the umpire. Ashwin inquired from the umpire and seemed okay. But then Anderson gave a look to Ashwin after completing his follow-up in the next two deliveries. The video footage of Anderson with umpire after the over suggests the England pacer wasn't happy about Ashwin standing too much inside the crease, which was somewhere distracting him in his bowling stride.

India vs England: Ashwin begins in style

A copybook cover drive from Ashwin (9*) against Bashir gets him going in style after Jaiswal (180*) started his day with a single. India 341/6 in 94 overs.

IND vs ENG: Stats Attack!

2nd Test hundred for young Jaiswal

Shubman Gill & Shreyas Iyer's struggle with the bat continue...

It was a mixed day for the hosts India on the opening day. They lost six wickets but managed to put up a good total of 336, thanks to a magnificent unbeaten century from young opener Yashasvi Jaiswal. Jaiswal, who is on 179* off 257 balls, will start the second day's proceedings with Ravichandran Ashwin, on 5*, with an aim to stretch the total closer to 400. England will be hoping for a quick wicket in the morning session and bowl out the hosts under 350.

Welcome back to the live coverage of the second Test between India and England in Vizag.

After the defeat in Hyderabad, India had to respond quickly to keep their proud home record intact. That they went into the second Test without Kohli, Rahul and Jadeja meant the pressure was on India to bat big after winning the toss. India found their man of the hour in Yashasvi Jaiswal. The 22-year-old showed remarkable maturity for someone playing in only his sixth Test. His temperament for daddy hundreds saved the day for the hosts. The firstday track was the best time to bat on, but it still needed batters to buckle down to the task. England persisted with their attacking tactics but in eschewing risk, Jaiswal’s innings prospered as the day progressed. Barring the one sweep that was uppish and eluded the fielder, Jaiswal hardly put a foot wrong. All his five sixes were clean hits.

India vs England: Umpires withdraw the stumps and that's the end of Day 1

India 336 for 6 after opting to bat first. Yashasvi Jaiswal batting on 179, his first Test century on home soil, and Ravichandran Ashwin batting with him on 5. England spinners Rehan Ahmed (2/61) and debutant Shoaib Bashir (2/100) took two wickets each. England took three wickets in the final session to claw back a little, but Jaiswal's big unbeaten century tilted the day in India's favour. We will be back with our live coverage from day two tomorrow. Do join us at Timesofindia.com. Good bye and take care.

India vs England: Out!

Srikar Bharat (17) tries to cut, and is caught by Bashir at backward point. Rehan strikes. India 330/6 in 91 overs.
