ELECTION2024: IEC determined to beat 7-day window period for ...
The Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) says it will try to announce the election results before Sunday, 2 June 2024.
This is according to IEC CEO, Sy Mamabolo during a media briefing at the Result Operations Centre (ROC) in Midrand.
South Africans have an hour left to make their voices heard by voting for political parties of their choice which will be the 7th administration.
Mamabolo says the Commission aims to balance accuracy and speed in announcing the election results.
“The seven-day window period, the Commission is careful not to take long to get to a point where they declare results. It is not the intention of the Commission to take the whole seven days and have the country in suspense for that period.
“At a reasonable opportunity, the Commission will announce the outcome of the elections balancing two imperatives; accuracy and speed,” he said.
Mamabolo adds that there has been a surge in metropolitans of late evening voters.
