The Presidency was quick to correct an apparent script error made yesterday when President Ramaphosa and the serially incompetent Fikile Mbalula announced to the media that South Africa was planning on leaving the International Criminal Court (ICC).

Apparently, someone left out the ‘NOT’ part of the scripted tirade against the evil West, and in reality, the message was that we are not leaving the ICC.

Not leaving, but not leaving.

For a moment there Putin was probably rushing to his Anatov to come visit his newest colony, but with this new news, the Russian macho man has to Jui Jitsu at home until the ANC can find another way to prove their fealty to the birthplace of Communism.

“This clarification follows an error in a comment made during a media briefing held by the governing African National Congress on South Africa’s status with regard to the ICC. Regrettably, the president erroneously affirmed a similar position during a media session today (Tuesday).”

It’s easy to make light of a f*@#-up like this, and Fikile and President Ramaphosa may use the excuse of an illiterate speech writer to explain away the gaff, but surely these two should have the common sense to know what our policies are towards international statutes.

If the piece of paper says we are leaving the ICC, why did they not correct the mistake on the spot? Or are they so clueless about our position on international politics that they literally just read what is put in front of them? No wonder our flag took a swipe at the President.

Jirre guys, get it together. There are 60 million people who depend on your ability to use the correct wording when discussing stuff that could very well drag us into an international conflict.

The next time you mouth off against international accountability for mass murderers, maybe double-check the script. Or ask any one of the second-grade teachers employed by SADTU.

At least 30% of them can read for comprehension.
