Harvey Weinstein diagnosed with cancer, source says
(CNN) - Harvey Weinstein has been diagnosed with bone cancer, according to a source close to the incarcerated movie producer.
The source said 72-year-old Weinstein is undergoing treatment at Rikers Island in New York.
Weinstein’s longtime spokesperson declined to comment on his diagnosis and whether his upcoming trial might be impacted by it.
Weinstein was convicted of a first-degree criminal sexual act and third-degree rape in 2020 and was given a 23-year prison sentence.
However, that conviction was overturned in April after the New York Court of Appeals said Weinstein’s constitutional rights were violated.
A retrial on those charges is scheduled to start in November.
Meanwhile, Weinstein remains jailed as he appeals a 2022 conviction in Los Angeles, where he received a 16-year sentence on three sexual assault charges.
