North West police probe drowning at Hartbeespoort Dam
JOHANNESBURG - Police in the North West have launched an investigation into the death of a man who drowned at the Hartbeespoort Dam.
A multi-rescue operation led by the National Sea Rescue Institute (NSRI), law enforcement as well as water policing and diving services located and recovered the man's body on Wednesday.
The NSRI said it received reports of a missing man, who is believed to be from Malawi, who had been fishing from his canoe in the area on Tuesday afternoon.
The NSRI's Craig Lambinon: "Police divers assisted by the NSRI Hartbesspoort Dam and strategic rescue unit, located and recovered the body of the man from the water. The body of the man has been taken into the care of police and government health forensic pathology services."
