The Goo Goo Dolls have postponed their much-anticipated South Africa tour following the hospitalisation of their lead singer, John Rzeznik, due to pneumonia. Originally scheduled for December, the tour has been rescheduled to 25 to 29 March, 2025, Cape {town} Etc reports

In a statement, the band addressed the situation with heartfelt candour, explaining the necessity of prioritising Rzeznik’s recovery. ‘Pneumonia is a serious condition, especially for a vocalist whose health and voice are central to their craft. Performing while unwell could have lasting effects, so as fans of the Goo Goo Dolls, we fully support John in prioritizing his recovery.’

The Goo Goo Dolls had been set to perform in Cape Town, Durban, and Pretoria, including iconic venues such as Kirstenbosch Gardens and Voortrekker Monument.

In a personal message, Rzeznik expressed his regret and gratitude:
‘We’re heartbroken to postpone our South Africa shows. This country means so much to us, and we were so excited to create more memories with you. Sadly, my doctor has advised rest and recovery. Thank you for your understanding—we’ll make it worth the wait when we return in March 2025!’

Promoters echo support for health first

Tour promoters Goodlife Productions and Amp Events acknowledged the disappointment among fans but emphasised the importance of Rzeznik’s health.
‘It is deeply regrettable for this postponement to happen so close to the event, knowing how many plans have already been made by fans, performers, and organizing teams alike. However, John’s health must come first, and we are deeply grateful for the understanding and kindness from fans during this time. The band remains committed to delivering the unforgettable experience you’ve been waiting for, and we can’t wait to welcome them back to South Africa in March 2025,’ they stated.
