The match marked a new chapter for German football following the retirements of several 2014 World Cup winners. Niclas Fuellkrug opened the scoring after 27 minutes, assisted by Musiala from a Wirtz pass.

In the second half, Wirtz provided a long pass for Musiala to double Germany’s lead. Musiala then returned the favour, setting up Wirtz for the third goal. Aleks Pavlovic and Kai Havertz completed the rout with goals in the final 15 minutes.

The convincing win suggests Germany has the talent to move forward after recent retirements, two years before the 2026 World Cup. The match also saw changes in key positions, with Pascal Gross filling Toni Kroos’s role in midfield and Marc-Andre ter Stegen taking the goalkeeper position.

Coach Julian Nagelsmann started both Fuellkrug and Havertz in attack, a strategy he had not used during the European Championship.

Germany will face the Netherlands in Amsterdam on Tuesday, while Hungary will host Bosnia and Herzegovina. The result and performance will boost confidence in the German camp as they prepare for future competitions.
