Bees can punish fortunate Fulham

The Cottagers’ summer has been chaotic, to say the least – and although Marco Silva and Aleksandar Mitrovic are still at the club, that may not be the case come the end of the month.

Mitrovic wants a big-money move to Saudi Arabia, and without his supply of goals Fulham may struggle this season. While they picked up a win at Goodison Park last weekend, the stats suggest they were fortunate to even leave with a point, and on another day they could have been on the wrong end of a heavy defeat.

The Cottagers will be without midfielder Joao Palhinha once again this week through injury, and his absence is going to be felt in the middle of the park. While Brentford cannot call on the services of Ivan Toney, who is serving a long suspension, until January, they have enough firepower to punish any Fulham mistakes, and an away win looks good value this week.

Mbeumo can lead by example

Forward Bryan Mbeumo will be crucial to Brentford’s style of play this season, and he is now playing further forward without Toney.

The former Troyes playmaker scored on the opening day against Spurs, and he will be a threat against the Cottagers.

Mbeumo last netted against Fulham in December 2019, but he is just as dangerous at setting his teammates up. The 24-year-old has eight goal involvements in his past eight Premier League matches, and the hosts will need to mark him out of the game if they are to have any chance of picking up a share of the spoils.

Goals should flow in fiery derby

It would be a surprise to see a low-scoring affair, especially when the previous two meetings have ended 3-2 to either side. Over 2.5 goals has landed in the past four meetings between the two sides – and considering Fulham’s weaknesses at the back, the same could happen again.

Both Yoane Wissa and Raul Jimenez were happy to shoot on sight in week one, and if they lead their teams’ respective attacks as expected they should both be able to have a shot on target.

There will be no love lost during this match, with both fanbases desperate to get one over each other. Games between these two sides are often fiery encounters, and there could be plenty of cards dished out.

Referees have been encouraged to clamp down on dissent this season, and there have been at least three cautions in the previous four encounters. Neither side will want to give anything away to their rivals, so we expect over four yellow cards at Craven Cottage.
