Belotti's Italy dream and message to Roma after first Fiorentina goal ...
Andrea Belotti admits he dreams of being included in Italy’s squad for Euro 2024 and insists he needed to join a team that would allow him to express himself.
Il Gallo scored his first Fiorentina goal on his debut as a starter in a 5-1 victory over Frosinone at the Stadio Franchi on Sunday.
The Italian striker had joined the Tuscans on loan from Roma in the January transfer window and made his debut with the Viola last weekend in a 3-2 loss against Lecce.
Belotti, a former Torino captain, had scored six goals in 22 appearances with Roma in the firs part of the 2023-24 campaign.
Talking to Sky Sport Italia after his convincing home debut, Belotti confirmed his desire to play at Euro 2024 with Italy over the summer.
“Surely, it is one of my objectives,” said the 30-year-old as quoted by Sport Mediaset.
“It all depends on what I’ll do with Fiorentina. If I get a call-up, I’ll be happy. I hope Luciano Spalletti comes to watch me in Florence, but I know he watches all the games as he’s a football master.”
Belotti was part of the Azzurri squad that won the Euros in 2021 and has netted 12 times in 44 matches with La Nazionale.
“I’ve just arrived and I knew I needed a team that would allow me to express myself,” he continued.
“I decided to come here as soon as I got the chance. I had spoken to Italiano and I have the chance I can prove my worth here.
“All the guys have welcomed me well here,” Belotti added in an interview with DAZN.
“They are all helping me to settle in. I try to make my experience available for the team and I think I proved it today.”
Fiorentina don’t have an option to make Belotti’s move from Roma permanent at the end of the season and the striker’s contract at the Stadio Olimpico expires in June 2025.
