For Norris meanwhile, it was a disastrous afternoon in the Sao Paulo rain, as he slipped to a P6 finish after starting the race on pole.

Max though redressed the balance with that masterful drive in wet conditions (and the fastest lap), and he now leads Lando by 61 points after outscoring his title rival by 26 to 8. The current tally is 393 for Verstappen against 331 for Norris.

With Qatar also having a Sprint Race there are now a maximum total of 86 points available - 26 points for each Grand Prix proper (25 for a win plus a point for fastest lap) and then a maximum of 8 points for winning that Qatar Sprint.
