Gary Caldwell reacts to City's Trophy win against Swindon | Exeter ...

Gary Caldwell was pleased with how his team continued their winning habit with a victory against Swindon in the opening Bristol Street Motors Trophy match this evening. 

Ed Francis opened the scoring before Swindon responded almost immediately, however an exceptional goal from Jack Aitchison gave City the lead 10 minutes from time.

"We said after Saturday, which was a brilliant win away from home, we wanted to back it up," said Gary. 

"We made a few changes, some younger players coming into the team which is always good and it took a while, but in the second half we came to life."

"We scored a good first goal and an unbelievable second goal, we were disappointed with the goal we conceded but I thought we deserved to win the game."

Tonight's game also saw 17-year-old Liam Oakes play the full 90 minutes on just his second start for the club, and his performance pleased City's manager.

"I thought he was brilliant," Gary exclaimed. 

"I spoke to him when we took him off at Walsall and said, these experiences you're going to have, good and bad in football and you have to take them for what they are. 

"For him to bounce back shows the quality he has as a player and as a character. I'm absolutely delighted for him, I thought some of his plays, some of his crosses were fantastic, he lasted the 90 minutes really well which was great fitness levels."
