IEC officials will also be doing home visits to assist voters who are physically or visually impaired.

Deputy Chief Electoral Officer Masego Shiburi said the commission had ensured everyone’s vote would remain a secret.

“Working together with the South African Council for the Blind, we have developed a voting aid, which we call a universal ballot template. For persons who can read brail, they can vote without disclosing their choice of candidates or party.

“For those with unsteady hands, they will be able to use the universal ballot template, to also make their mark without disclosing their choice or relying on companions for assistance.”
