The referee initially showed a yellow card, however, after VAR check, he reversed his decision and showed the striker a straight red. Valencia was late and his challenge was high, his studs were also showing. It was a clear red card offence.
Sarmiento’s stunner gives Ecuador leadJeremy Sarmiento’s 40th minute strike from outside the box gives ten-man La Tri lead. It was a brilliant counter-attcak which was defended by the Venezuelan defence. Foul by Venezuela’s Yordan Osorio gives Ecuador a rare chance of a set piece situation. Following the free-kick, Sarmiento takes a right footed shot from the centre of the box to the bottom right corner to give his team the upper hand.

The match at Levi’s Stadium started with both sets of players vying for every loose ball and bring an element of tough physicality to the game. Colombian referee Wilmar Roldan had to resort to several bookings in the first 45 minutes to keep the players in check.
After Ecuador striker Enner Valencia was sent off for a nasty challenge, La Tri’s attackers Kendry Paez and Jeremy Sarmiento also got into the referee’s book. On the other hand, Venezuela’s Cristian Casseres Jr. and Darwin Machis were also cautioned by Roldan.

Bello hands Venezuela leadAnother super-sub, Eduard Bello gives Venezuela the lead. La Vinotinto is now finally taking advantage of their numerical superiority. His right footed shot from the right side of the six yard box to the bottom right corner gives Venezuela 2-1 lead in the 73rd minute.
