City of Cape Town launches investigation into unconfirmed ...
The City of Cape Town’s disaster risk management division says they have launched an investigation following reports of a ‘seismic-like event’ along with a ‘loud rumble or blast sound’ some 14 kilometres south of the Mother City at around 5:39pm on Wednesday.

‘We are investigating; ourselves and fire services,’ Charlotte Powell, a spokesperson for the disaster management division told News24.
Residents living near Milnerton and its surrounding areas reported hearing windows shaking, and those living near Table View described hearing an explosion with light shaking.
A resident in Landsdowne reported slight shaking and hearing a rumble. One resident said that it sounded like a rumble and a thud could be felt from the ground. They said the whole ordeal lasted around two to five seconds.

Many people took to social media expressing their concern for the unconfirmed quake they experienced.
‘Yes, my daughter and I felt that earth tremor at about 17:39’ ‘Was it just me or was there some sort of an Earthquake Phenomenon in Cape Town again?’ ‘Earthquake in Cape Town parklands a few minutes ago?’Volcano Discovery said, ‘We are receiving unverified early reports of ground shaking possibly caused by seismic activity in or near Cape Town, Western Cape, South Africa on 27 March 2024 at approximately 3:39pm GMT.
‘Details of the quake (if it is one) are so far unknown until confirmed by seismic agency, but the event was reported felt.’
It was only last month where a light magnitude 3.49 earthquake took place off the West Coast.
Mahlatse Mononela, spokesperson for the Council for Geoscience, told News24 that no seismic activity was seen on their systems in or near Cape Town on Wednesday. On Wednesday, the systems recorded small seismic events in Viljoenskroon, Grootvlei, Emalahleni and Fochville – but did not record anything in Cape Town.
