The Gauteng traffic police department says it has deployed a substantial number of officers today due to an expected peak in traffic volumes.

Many motorists are expected to make their way to KwaZulu-Natal for the inaugural Durban July this weekend.

Authorities say the N1 and N3 highways are expected to be the busiest.

“Gauteng traffic police and other law enforcement agencies will be out in numbers monitoring freeways. [We will] also use drones to monitor the behaviour of drivers,”

says Obed Sibasa, Spokesperson for Gauteng Traffic Police.

Sibasa has advised motorists to refrain from drinking and driving and breaking other rules of the rules.

“We won’t negotiate law enforcement. We advise drivers to adhere to the rules of the roads.”
