Durban July: Motorists urged to use alternative routes

JOHANNESBURG - Some roads in Durban have been closed off to traffic as the Durban July kicks off in Greyville on Saturday.

The city is expecting between 35,000 and 48,000 people are expected to attend the annual horse racing event.

Ethekwini municipality has urged motorists to use alternative routes as certain roads will be closed until the end of the event.

The municipality said Clarence Road, Mitchell Crescent and Avondale Road will be inaccessible from the early hours of Saturday morning.

It said law enforcement officials would be deployed to the area to direct traffic and ensure the safety of Durban July attendees.
