With this year’s edition celebrating 30 years of democracy in South Africa, the festival will expand its focus to highlight not only outstanding food, art and fashion, but the role of music in advocating for civil liberties through a showcase titled 30 Years of Creative Freedom Show. The showcase will feature local acts Thandiswa Mazwai, Sipho, ‘Hotstix’ Mabuse and Cassper Nyovest, among others.

“We are thrilled to be returning with a very special commemorative festival to celebrate 30 years of creative freedom in South Africa,” festival co-founders Tom Pearson-Adams and Lloyd Cornwall said.

“Something that sets our rainbow nation apart is our exceptional creative and cultural talent, which has been a cornerstone of the DStv Delicious International Food & Music Festival since we started out in 2013. We are excited to be building on that to include a special spotlight on our country’s artists at this year’s event.”

Janet Jackson, Thandiswa Mazwai and G Force will perform on 21 June, and will joined on the 30 Years of Creative Freedom Show by Cassper Nyovest, Boom Shaka, Khuli Chana, Yanga, Okmalumkoolkat, Robot Boii, Reason, Maggz, Touchline, Morafe and Focalistic.

Jill Scott will share the stage with the Soweto Gospel Choir and Sjava and The Maestro on 22 June. The 30 Years of Creative Freedom Show will also take centre stage on the same day with entertainment from Sipho ‘Hotstix’ Mabuse, Jesse Clegg, Mzwakhe Mbuli SNR, Yvonne Chaka Chaka and Zolani Mahola.

“Multichoice is proud to share in the 30-year celebration, having been founded in late 1994,” Multichoice and DStv group chief marketing officer Yatish Narsi said. “Our business has a unique place alongside our young democracy, and we are honoured to have played a role in enriching the lives of South Africans through the likes of DStv. This festival has grown tremendously over the last 11 years. It has become South Africa’s premier lifestyle and entertainment event and DStv is delighted to once again be on board, celebrating 30 years of creative freedom.”

Tickets to the event can be purchased here.
