Under the theme “Healing Historical Wounds and Forging New Futures”, President Cyril Ramaphosa has emphasised the importance of applying human dignity to all South Africans as the country commemorates the Day of Reconciliation.
Delivering the keynote address in Vredendal, Cape Town, the President called for reflection and efforts to build a united nation.
“Since the advent of democracy, we have sought to do away with symbols that are divisive. We chose to mark the 16th of December as a day of reconciliation – a celebration of our unity in diversity,” he said.
Ramaphosa also urged employers to value their employees by treating them with dignity and respect.
“As we work to reduce unemployment, we see the value of agriculture and land reform in growing our economy and creating jobs for our people.
“We call on all employers to treat people humanely, provide decent accommodation, and uphold the law to protect the rights of all individuals,” he added.
