Crystal Palace have agreed a deal to sign midfielder Adam Wharton from Blackburn Rovers.

The England Under-20 international, 19, will now travel to London on Tuesday for a medical and complete the move.

The deal will be worth around £22million including add-ons with terms still to be finalised on a long-term contract with the Premier League side.

If all goes as planned Wharton, who was named Blackburn’s young player of the season in 2022-23, will become Palace’s second senior signing of the January transfer window following the arrival of Daniel Munoz from Genk.

The Athletic reported last week that Palace had seen an £18.5m bid rejected by Rovers but with the deadline approaching they have returned with an improved offer to get the deal over the line.

Palace have been keen to strengthen Roy Hodgson’s squad — especially in the midfield area — following the loss of Cheick Doucoure in November to a long-term Achilles injury.

They completed a move for defender Munoz in a deal worth €8.1m on Tuesday.

An academy product with the Championship side, Wharton has impressed this season, making 26 league appearances including 22 starts.

He did not feature against Wrexham in the FA Cup fourth-round tie on Monday night, however.
