Free State Cricket and the Mangaung Oval were thrilled to host the former West Indies and Orange Free State Captain Jimmy Adams.
Jimmy, who made his debut for the West Indies in 1992 and captained the Orange Free state from 2001 – 2003 came to the “City of Roses” with the West Indies ‘A’ squad for their inbound tour of South Africa where they played 3 four-day matches against South Africa ‘A’.
“I really enjoyed the last 7 days, obviously apart from the result, but to get an opportunity at this stage in my life to revisit a place I really enjoyed way back in the day means a lot to me.” Commented Adams.
“I’ve had the chance to catch up with old friends and that also made the experience that much worthwhile. The West Indies is abit far away from Bloemfontein and I don’t know when I will get the chance to visit again, but it’s been good catching up with friends and people I played with, also seeing the ground I once called home has been a fantastic experience.” Concluded the West Indies ‘A’ Assistant Coach.
“I was chuffed to hear that Jimmy is coming to Bloemfontein, where he made a lot of memories and friends in his playing days for the Orange Free State.”
“Players of Jimmy’s calibre is a rare commodity to have in any team and I hope his contribution to West Indies Cricket will ignite the current crop of players and young cricketers.” Commented Johan van Heerden, CEO of Free State Cricket Union.
Additionally, Jimmy played club cricket and was a player at Rocklands Cricket Club, one of the oldest cricket clubs in Bloemfontein.
