Conor McGregor couldn’t believe what he was seeing when Khabib Nurmagomedov announced his shock retirement at UFC 254.

‘The Eagle’ impressively unified the lightweight division with a second-round technical submission win over Justin Gaethje in Abu Dhabi on October 24, 2020.

Nurmagomedov, who was just 32 years old at the time, used his post-fight speech to announce that he will be walking away from fighting after stretching his perfect record to 29-0.

New footage from McGregor’s recently released Netflix documentary shows the Irishman watched his biggest rival’s retirement speech live and had multiple reactions to it.

‘Notorious’ initially begins to clap at the TV in a show of respect before the realisation that he may never get the chance to avenge his most famous loss sets in.

The 34-year-old then lets out an awkward giggle before saying, ‘Ah, f*** it’ and continuing to watch intently as Nurmagomedov explains that the recent death of his father influenced his decision retire.

McGregor then relocates to another room before the cameraman asks if he’s surprised by Nurmagomedov's announcement.

“A little bit [surprised], yeah,” the former dual-weight UFC champion replied.

“Although, I know he’s always had retirement on his mind, he doesn’t really want to be in there too much, I don’t think.

“It is what it is, he said he had a conversation with his mother and talked to her for three days. It is what it is. I couldn’t give a f***.”

The Irishman quickly changed his tune when asked if he was disappointed about the fact he’ll never get the chance to avenge his famous four-round UFC 229 submission defeat.

"It will happen. I don’t believe it. I’m good, we’ll see what happens,” McGregor said, assuming Nurmagomedov would return to fighting in the near future.

Almost three years later, the Russian wrestler hasn’t fought and appears to be done with the sport altogether after recently stepping back from MMA coaching to focus on his family.
