The police are urgently looking for anyone with information that can help identify a swimmer who drowned at Clifton in Cape Town.

Little information is still known about the incident that took place on Clifton’s second beach on Sunday morning. Several emergency services tried to revive the middle-aged woman before she was pronounced dead at the scene.

The National Sea Rescue Institute (NSRI) asked on Sunday afternoon that anyone with information about the identity of the “white woman”, or contact details of her family, call the Camps Bay police on 021 437 8140 or the NSRI on 082 380 3800.

According to the NSRI, the woman was probably in her 50s and dressed in a flowered two-piece, a yellow swimming cap and purple Speedo swimming goggles.

Nicola Jowell, ward councilor in the area, expressed her condolences to the deceased’s family in a post on Facebook on Sunday and thanked everyone who tried to help the victim. “A sad way to start the Sunday,” she said.
